Become an Underwater Researcher
Get involved in a one month research and conservation internship at Koh Phangan's only research facility! This internship is split into two 14 day programs.
Initial 14 day course
This course Teaches state of the art research, conservation and reef management techniques and strategies.The first part of the course includes:
- • Advanced fish and coral Identification
- • Surveying & monitoring techniques
- • Laboratory works, coral nursery management
- • Benthic and pelagic sampling techniques and strategies.
Course Details:
- • planning, preparation and execution of research / sampling campaigns
- • advanced gas planning and safety protocols
- • advanced mapping and imaging techniques of marine structures (transects, grids and advanced patterns)
- • specialized buoyancy techniques, equipment handling and lifting devices
- • sampling techniques for water, sediments, planktonic and nektonic organisms
- • internship in our marine laboratory
- • analysis and documentation of field samples
- • participation in current research projects (your group chooses, plans and designs their own project)
- • lectures on: reef classification, reef management, coral and aquatic animal physiology, ecology, coral diseases and coral-algae-interactions
The course includes a minimum of 14 dives
14 day practical application
Students design, manage and monitor their own conservation or research project.Additionally students assist in the current research project.
College credit available
Core sea's team consists of marine scientists, experienced research and Tec-Divers, diving instructors and professional underwater photographers and videographers. We have already conducted several oceanic research projects in the Gulf of Thailand.

As passionate divers and marine scientists, we are very aware of how fortunate we are to be able to work in this beautiful part of our planet. This is why we spend a lot of our time and effort on marine conservation projects in the Gulf of Thailand.
At least 10% of all course fees are donated to maintain our and other reputable conservation projects.
Sail Rock Census Project
Currently we are working on the Sail Rock Census. The aim of this project is to map, identify and classify the ecosystem of Sail Rock, a prerequisite for getting the site acknowledged within the Thailand Conservation Framework.
Conservation Volunteer Program
We are currently setting up a volunteering program geared towards sustainable diving and conservation. We conduct regular reef and beach clean-ups, you are welcome to help!
